Steph Callaghan Reg. MBACP Dip.Couns

I am a qualified therapist working with a range of difficulties and I specialise in Autism spectrum counselling and support. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and I am governed by their ethical framework and guidelines.

I work with children, teenagers and adults, I also work with families, parents and schools to provide support and strategies for a range of difficulties.  I use autism specific strategies when working with children and young people who are autistic in a way that best suits them. This can be through talking therapy, or by using creative resources.

I have a diagnosis of Aspergers and ADHD which I received as an adult after the diagnosis of one of my children.

Some of the things I can help adults and young people with

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Understanding a diagnosis
  • Masking and mirroring
  • Females and autism
  • Exploring relationships
  • Seeking out a diagnosis and where to go
  • Accepting and understanding a diagnosis
  • Managing burnout
  • Strategies for organisation and structure
  • Strategies to help when you feel overloaded
  • Understanding your sensory differences

For younger ones

I use a range of 'tools' when working with children such as play, sensory play, art and music

  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Family breakdown
  • Sensory needs
  • Communication
  • Social interaction and building on social skills
  • Lego, baking and art therapy
  • Friendships

I am based in my own private room in Horsforth, Leeds. Sessions can either be held in my private therapy practice or in your child's school. Should you wish to have a school appointment we shall discuss this prior to the first session and I will make the arrangements with the school.
